Situated in the private Bergview estate in the picturesque Champagne valley, this cottage is ideally located to allow you to take full advantage of the many local attractions. The view from the wooden deck in the garden encompasses mountains, an indigenous forest and a lake. Bergview is situated within a nature conservancy and on the borders of the world famous UKhahlamba World Heritage site.
Although this cottage is situated just 60m down the lane it has a completely different feel and environment! Nestled into the side of the hill overlooking the Forest and the lower reaches of the Berg, Bergview Cottage 02 is totally private and secluded!
The interiors are comfortable yet classy, no expense was spared on the furnishings and finishes. A cleaning service is included for your convenience. The modern Kitchen is also equipped with a dishwasher.
Three bedrooms have each got their own bathroom facilities, two with only a shower and the main en suite with bath and shower. The living area is spacious and comfortable with one area for TV viewing and another for reading, a large selection of books and games is available. The large LCD screen is equipped with full DSTV and a DVD player and limited selection of DVDs are provided. A fireplace provides special ambience in winter and all the bedrooms have both heaters and fans.
A small covered patio is located off the lounge and a Weber Braai may be found here. Further out in the garden is a large wooden deck overlooking the Blue Grotto forest. Early morning and evenings Bushbuck and Duiker may be seen from here. Other animals found in the immediate area include, Serval, Porcupine, Jackal, Baboon, Vervet Monkeys and several species of Mongoose as well as the Cape Clawless Otter. A nearby Vultures restaurant ensures frequent overhead sightings of the Cape Vulture.
What to do in Area:
1]. Walk to the Blue Grotto: this not too strenuous 2 hour walk [ accessible on foot from the house] leads you along the banks of a Chrystal clear mountain stream thru an indigenous forest as ancient as time itself. After reaching the blue grotto pool and waterfall, take a dip in the fresh clear waters [No diving please]. A steep climb will take you to the top of the hill overlooking the valley and a leisurely, downhill walk, to your house.
2]. Forest Canopy Tour: For the not too young or old! This wonderful tree top experience is not to be missed! Situated further up the forested valley from the blue grotto, so as not to disturb the peace and quiet of the residents, the tour can be booked on 083 661 5691.
3]. Horse Riding, available from the nearby Drakensberg Sun hotel [about 750m away]. The hotel also has a variety of other entertainment facilities that are available to our guests. Kindly note that the pool loungers are reserved for hotel guests, but you may swim. Guesta using the Drakensberg Sun facilities are asked to please remember that Hotel residents come first!
4]. Falcon Ridge Bird of prey centre. An absolute must for young and old alike! Weather permitting, daily flight displays are held; the centre is situated further up the R600 towards Champagne Castle, 10-15 minutes by car from the house. [Tel: 082 774 6398.] 5]. KWAZULU Weavers and Candles. Situated 15Km from the valley, on the road towards Winterton [R6 00]. This must visit attraction offers locally manufactured Rugs and Candles. There is a restaurant offering reasonably priced snacks and light meals as well as a country nursery, on site. Next to the nursery there is a well laid out “Putt Put” course. This visit will certainly keep the whole family amused .

8]. Thokosiza, Shopping experience! Situated on the crossroads of the R600, back towards Winterton. Local and imported Arty Crafty centre,offering local arts and crafts and a far Eastern furniture shop and a restaurant and bar.
9]. Best place for Sunday [or any day] lunch: Bingalela Restaurant, Bergville. Situated 3 km the other side of Bergville on the right hand side, Bingalela is a converted Farmhouse and a fine restaurant that will not disappoint! Treat yourself!
